About

For me photography is about the simple aesthetic pleasure of observing and sharing how form and content come together to create something visually compelling. People, the natural or manufactured landscape - the subject matter is almost incidental. The poet Allen Ginsberg, who was also an avid photographer, titled his picture memoir “Snapshot Poetics.” That pretty much describes what I aspire to in picture-making. And if from the panorama of life streaming by, one can also express something of our humanity, all the better. Not that I'm often successful, but it seems to me that a photograph needs nothing more to warrant its existence than this quality of visual poetry.
